So You Think You Can Dance?
So you really think you can dance?!!! I watched the first season and i'm watching the 2nd season and i'm telling you. It's brilliant. Brilliant. I know itz almost 5am. But let me talk.
Such competitions always bring about a greater awareness in the entertainment industry and the type of entertainment, be it singing/dancing/hosting or watever. A successfully produced competion will bring about greater interest and even involvement to whoever who watches it. Elements to make it successful: Competitors, Judges, Setting, Audience, Format of competition... to list a few. I know of a guy who wants to pick up dancing cause of this show k ;) i believe there are more. haha.. just like when i watched Channel U Superstar. I wanted to sing. Gd luck to all those who have to bear me thru my KTV sessions thereafter. HAAAHAA...
I watched Singapore Idol. And i regret to say though the format may have been terrific (Produced by Simon Fuller). Judges were of really bad quality. Bad. I didn't want to continue and it was just not worth my time though i felt there were pretty good quality singers there. But, the judges just weren't constructive enough to help the competitors. C'mon. It's already challenging enough to stand up there. Could you please just add value instead of just shooting down the singers?? Gosh. It was unbearable and i felt sad for the singers. It's not even worth competing... Actually, this is not about S'pore idol. I blogged cause of so you think you can dance. Let's not spoil the mood :p
Let's start. Season 1 was good. Which explains why i went on to season 2 rite? First of all, i loved the title. you will only understand after going through a season. Many people are great at what they do. I may think i'm great at dancing. But i only dance contemporary. So, does this make me a really great dancer? Yes. i may think so. But this competition challenges you to dance beyond your comfortable zone. To move in ways and techniques unknown to you. Not known to what you are familiar with. To learn dance techniques in 1 week? How many people can do that? You must have good foundations, you must have quick learning capabilities, you must be able to connect with your audience ... to list a few.
I just did season 2. The season hasn't ended actually. They just chose top 6 (ok, i know i'm slow. but i'm almost there!) At this stage in time, anybody who leaves from Top 8 is a loss, a loss to the audience.
I absolutely love the judges. Even Nigel. Haha.. i think he is brilliant and i respect him for the way he sticks to his passion and beliefs about the show. The judges in SYTYCD are even more involved than those in American Idol. They cheoreograph the dance moves, teach their competitors, find their strengths and push them to greater heights. You can see them growing even in the short 1 week/ 1 month. The enlightenment, the speed of growth is amazing. The format of the show and the judges aided alot in the progress.
SYTYCD taught me about dance. Different genres of dance. Now i know what's contemporary, hip hop, disco, broadway, quick step, mambo, chacha, lyrical.. haaa! SYTYCD also taught me about life. Life in different angles. Benji, and the way he picked himself up even things got him down. He's now the hottest guy in town. If i'm stayin in america, i'll be picking up the phone! Natalie and Allyson theri passion in dance. Ivan and his growth. He's got huge potential. Credits go to him as well. Funny guy. Donyelle? I just love this lady... She truly went a long way in her career. Attitude? Never say die. Never. Heidi is another one. She had a pretty rough start but from about mid-show, i respected her from the way she took critics. She just sincerely wanted to "take her dancing to another level" Kudos to her on this. I'm just going to practice favouritism. These are my favourite pple... Anyhow, it was really sad to see people go. But i guess, if no one loses, no one wins. They are already winners in my heart ;) I love all of you!
Thank you for introducing me to this show breezy, u rock :)
