I'm a fan... of Randy Paush

after finally finishing his lecture. which took me almost a week! (an indication of the free time i have nowadays), i searched for the next one. Time Management. Am going to continue to pen down what he said so i can read back in future:

1) Time is a commodity. Money is a commodity. The only difference is you can never get back time.
2) Bad time management = stress
3) If you are not going to have fun, why do it?
4) Being successful doesn't mean managing your time well. Managing your time well makes you successful
5) Goals, Priorities and Planning
- Why am i doing this? What is the goal?
- What happens if i choose not to do it?
- Doing things right vs doing right things
- 100 things to do in my life
- 80/20 rule. Find the things that are valuable
6) Experience comes from Time and there's no other way to get it. Good judgement comes from experience. And if things are not going well, than you are learning alot and are going to get better later
7) If you can dream it, you can do it. - Walt Disney
if you cannot dream it, it'll never happen
8) Hard work hard work!
9) Do the worst thing first. If you have to eat a frog, don't look at it. If you have to eat 3, don't start with the small one :P
10) Covey's 4 Quadrant - To do
Due Soon Due Not So Soon
Important 1 2

Not Important 3 4
11) Keep your desk uncluttered. "i own the desk!"
12) Touch the paper only once
13) Everyday:
- Have a To Do List (Sorted by importance)
- Zero inbox
14) Having a stack of thank you notes in the office / gestures
15) Work-Life Balance. Leave on time!
16) Effective vs efficient
17) Procastination is a thief of time
18) Doing things last minute is really expensive. stress, work harder, can't find pple!
19) Put a fake dateline!
20) Delegate: Authority with responsibility. Empower.
21) Treat people / subordinates with respect
22) Delegate:
- With specific date / time
- specific thing to do
- Specific reward / penalty
- delegate until they complain
- challenge people
- let them surprise you, give them a problem to solve themselves
- praise them, thank them
23) Have power meetings, if not don't have them.
Write minutes after meetings
24) Exchange money for time
