Five Love Languages by Gary Chapman
Was about to sleep and happened to chance upon a good read which is apprantly quite a best seller. The book is as simple in concept as the title. i love books like that :p Makes the readers understand concepts in a few simple ways. I've always believed that there is a way to look at the world and that everything can be broken down to some simple ground rules.
An exerpt from an interview with the author:
"GARY CHAPMAN: We are not, by nature, lovers. We are, by nature, self centered." I used to reject this statement when i was young and idealistic and believed all humans are kind by nature. With 27 yrs of age, i realise the truth of this. As harsh as it is, i do agree now that humans in their natural state is to be self centered, probably because human are survivors and have an inate ability to react this way in order to last.
"GARY CHAPMAN: Another part of it is lack of understanding the nature of love. In the romantic and marriage relationships, we are so influenced by movies that give us the idea that love is this euphoric feeling and if you have got it is wonderful, and if you lose it, it is terrible, so we go from person to person to person living off that temporary in-love experience. It is temporary. The average lifespan is two years. People don't understand that. If they do understand that is temporary, they still don't know how to express love to each other so that you do have emotional warmth."
i can't express how much truth i see in this. I guess many people will probably brush me off for thinking this way. Coz i have seen marriages fail and countless couples breaking up. But i alwiz believed that love is an emotion and also something that is controlled by the mind and also a decision. You need all 3 elements in order to have a lasting relationship. Love can happen over and over again as long as the couple believes in it.
After all this talk, then again, destiny & fate is another element that i left out. It's important and itz beyond human control. So, if fate allows you to find this other half that walks the direction you do, congratulations! pls treasure it and learn to treasure it. :)
A bit heavy on a wed evening at 1.44am? Couldn't help it, he speaks my frequency in this fantasy world of mine. :p I've not read it but think the book is worth a read for couples or singles.
